Goal(s) (expectations):
· Students will be introduced to subtractive sculptural techniques.
· Students will complete a soap carving that includes positive and negative spaces, depicting abstract,
non-objective, or recognizable forms.



Strategies:
· Students and Teacher will look at and discuss sculptures by Henry Moore, observing abstractions and use of positive and negative space.
· Students will draw several thumbnail sketches of ideas to be carved into the soap block.
· Teacher will demonstrate how to carefully and patiently begin to form negative space and relief designs into the soap
· Students will use plastic knives to carefully carve their design into their soap.
· Students will do a group critique on their final project.
